Seven years after Briggs signed him to Bad Apples Music, Gomeroi rapper Kobie Dee is stepping into the label-owner seat himself.
Kobie has announced the launch of Twenny47 Records, his own independent label, with BAM coming on board as its distribution partner.
It’s a pretty neat full-circle moment. Kobie joined Briggs’ label seven years ago as an emerging artist. Now, he’s building a pathway for the next group coming through.
“BAM supports artists supporting artists,” Briggs said of the launch. “That mindset in creating a pathway is what our community has been built on.”
“Kobie’s step in this direction with Twenny47 is a showcase of his growth, maturity and entrepreneurship. I look forward to what new artists he brings to the fore!”
For Kobie, owning a label has always been part of the long-term plan for some time – just not necessarily this early.
“I’ve always known I’d start my own label eventually,” he said. “It was always an end goal for me though and not something I saw coming so early on in my career.”
“Being signed to BAM definitely inspired me to even think of doing something like this in the first place. From the moment I saw Briggs had started BAM, I knew that’s where I wanted to be. He showed me that we could exist in the industry not only as artists but also as label owners.”
Twenny47 Records isn’t appearing from nowhere.
The label grows out of Twenny47 Studios, Kobie’s community space built around culture, creativity and connection, where he runs music, arts and cultural workshops designed to support and empower young people.
It makes the move into running a label feel like a natural extension of what he’s already been doing: taking the experience and opportunities he’s picked up throughout his own career and creating space for other artists to develop theirs.
And if you know anything about Kobie Dee, it’s that bringing people with him has always been part of the picture.
His own career has continued to move steadily forward, from his acclaimed Chapter 26 EP to recent single ‘Aim for the Stars’, but Twenny47 feels like a slightly different kind of milestone.
It’s less about what Kobie does next as an artist, and more about what he can now help make possible for somebody else.
With Twenny47 Records officially underway, more announcements from the label are expected in the coming weeks.
