Daniel Craig is set to retire as James Bond with the April 2020 release of Bond 25. With production underway, rumours of the new film have begun to trickle out, the latest bombshell is that Captain Marvell actress Lashana Lynch has been cast to play 007.
Lynch won’t be taking over Craig’s role entirely, as they are set to star side by side in the new film. Rather, she’ll reportedly play a new character who takes over Bond’s secret agent number after he retires from MI6.
Lashana Lynch is rumoured to be taking over James Bond’s secret agent number – 007 – in the new James Bond film, set to be released in April 2020.
While Daniel Craig is returning to play James Bond in the new film, he begins the movie in retirement and is called back into active duty when a crisis hits, according to a leak. When he returns to the M16 office, he meets the new 007 – a black woman named Nomi, played by Lynch.
Lynch’s character was allegedly created by the woman behind Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was brought on board to add more character to the script, and to make Bond a little more fit for the current times.
Subsequently, Bond’s “usual seduction tricks… don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed,” The Daily Mail reports. Additionally, the infamous Bond girls are now being referred to as Bond women.
“This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film,” a Daily Mail source explained. “There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.”
Bond 25 is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and is scheduled to hit theaters on April 8th, 2020.
