Lava bend the boundaries of genre on their new single Won’t Let Go

On their new single Won’t Let Go, Byron Bay-based outfit Lava present a genre-bending slice of sprawling sonic brilliance.

There’s something undeniably captivating about the music of Lava. Since forming in late 2018, the Byron Bay based musical collective have carved out an incredibly unique sound for themselves; it’s grounded in earthy folk-like tones, but reaches into truly unexpected sonic territories.

With the release of their new single Won’t Let Go, the group continue to establish their penchant for crafting genre-bending, sonic gems. If you’re not already across this name, it’s definitely time you changed that.

Throughout the new single, Lava—made up of singer-songwriter Amber Rose Jolly and psy-trance producer/DJ Dhillon Tiffin—glide through an experimental concoction of folk, dream-pop, and electronica to craft a brand of music uniquely their own. With glitchy production, raw guitar flourishes, and soaring vocal hooks, Won’t Let Go is oozing with lush tones.

Needless to say, genre-bending is one thing, but this is Lava bending their own already unique sound.

Across its three-minute run-time, the song pulls in myriad sonic directions—it never sits in one place for too long. One moment you’ll be immersed in deep, resonant beats, and the next you’ll floating through blissful melodies. By the time the track reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely by Lava’s brilliant blend of music.

The new single arrives alongside a great new video, perfectly accompanying the track’s explorative sounds. Directed by the band themselves, the video features a crowd of characters, each in their own war-inspired costume.

These are still early days for the Byron Bay act, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes.
