Listen to Liyah Knight’s first single of the year, ‘Play It Cool’

“[It’s about] enjoying the moment,” Liyah Knight says of her infectious new single, Play It Cool, out today.

Liyah Knight has today (November 17) shared Play It Cool, an infectious, confident new single that marks her first music release of 2022.

Play It Cool sees the Sydney-based artist span a range of musical influences, evoking the titular phrase with her signature R&B croon. The track’s lyrics, co-written by Knight alongside Styalz Fuego and Rudy Sandapa, showcase an artist reveling in the joy of her successes, complete with a nonchalant hook and euphoric chorus. Speaking of these themes in a press statement, Knight said Play It Cool arose from “12 months [of] doing what I love.

“I think ‘Play It Cool’ is a testament to that. It’s about not taking relationships and life too seriously, and enjoying the moment,” Knight explained. The track marks Knight’s first release of the year, and arrives after the success of her 2021 EP, Traveller’s Guide. Prior to that, she released a pair of debut singles titled Better Unsaid and Tipsy in 2020. This handful of musical offerings was enough to propel stage appearances for Knight, who has most recently toured with the likes of Odette, Telenova and Joy Crookes, among others.

In addition to those performances, which also include a set at this year’s BIGSOUND, Knight has also announced her own headline tour kicking off next month. The three-date run of shows will mark the singer’s first with the support of a live band, and includes two appearances at the music festivals Lost Paradise and NYE On The Hill. Elsewhere, Knight will perform her own show at Sydney’s TIVA venue on December 8.

Tickets to Knight’s performances are available now here. In the meantime, check out her latest single Play It Cool above, and keep an eye out for her festival appearances towards the latter end of this year. Last month, Knight stopped by Happy Mag to create a sample pack from the sounds of machines and beads found in her mum’s costume workshop.
