Local legends Inertia Music have been acquired by [PIAS] Recordings

Australia’s largest independent label and distribution and sales company Inertia Music has been fully acquired by Belgium’s [PIAS] Recordings.

Like Inertia, [PIAS] runs an in-house label while offering distribution and publicity services to a network of other indie labels, so the relationship between the two is pretty clear-cut.

[PIAS] Recordings’ first major acquisition since 2015 will be Australia’s Inertia Music, a natural fit for both businesses.

This doesn’t represent much of a change to the inner workings of Inertia, which will still be overseen by CEO Colin Daniels. No other plans to change the current staff roster are in the works.

Kenny Gates, co-founder and CEO of [PIAS] said the following in a statement:

“[PIAS] and Inertia share the same values and vision for our industry and that is why our new partnership is such an obvious and natural fit. The attention, the focus and the investment we both put into the artists and labels we represent is our raison d’etre.”

“Over and above the focus we both have for building a strong and prosperous business, we believe there is a heartbeat that pulses through our shared passion for music.”

“The combined offering of the [PIAS] network and Inertia’s expertise and experience will make a true difference for the independent community in Australia and New Zealand.”

The entire Australian artist and label roster of [PIAS] will be taken over by Inertia from the 1st of April 2017.
