Lunatics On Pogosticks are a trio that hail from Lennox Head (near Byron) in NSW, and their poppy, garage rock sound has been turning heads since 2012. Their success continued to skyrocket after winning the Triple J Unearthed comp and playing support slots for Grinspoon, Birds of Tokyo, Chet Faker and MGMT.
Prior to the Triple J unearthed title in 2013, they released a debut self-titled EP in March 2012 and without much of a break in between, their first album Medicine for Da Illin in October 2012. In March 2013 came the release of Sexist Texas, their split EP with fellow garage skuzz band Bowl Cut. These guys have most recently released a brand new single titled Blood Clot. Bloody hell, they’ve been busy. Blood Clot, recorded in Sydney’s triple J studios, is a classic upbeat garage rock tune. It is a chaotic ballad that features catchy guitar hooks and fat riffs, pretty representative of the band’s sound.
The boys originally started out with a sole focus on making ‘noisy garage tunes’ with little thought for lyrics and melody. This is definitely hard to believe when listening to Blood Clot in particular, which has such impressive vocal work. The sound of the magnetic guitars accompanies Newton’s vocals to give your ears a real deep tissue massage. These lunatics are definitely worth checking out.
