Madonna reflects on ‘Sex’ book legacy, says it paved the way for Cardi B and others

Madonna celebrates the 30th anniversary of her Sex book, reflecting on its legacy via Instagram: “Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP.”

Madonna took to her Instagram story over the weekend to reflect on the legacy of her 1992 coffee table book titled Sex, in honour of its 30th anniversary. She wrote, “30 years ago I published a book called sex. In addition to photos of me naked, there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman, and Me kissing everyone.”

The Like A Virgin hitmaker continued, “I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view about sexuality in an ironic way. I spent the next few years being interviewed by narrow minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a Woman. I was called a whore, a witch a heteric and the devil.”

Deemed highly controversial at the time, Madonna’s Sex book was published on October 21 of 1992 by Warner Books, a mere day after her fifth studio LP, Erotica was released. Continuing to reflect on its legacy via Instagram, the acclaimed pop songstress declared that it paved the way for other female entertainers, including Cardi B, Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus.

“Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP,” she wrote. “Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball.”
