Mesa Cosa are a punk band from Melbourne who first came to our attention from their awesome video for ‘Sydney’. It’s intense lo-fi garage punk circa the heyday of The Dead Kennedys and Black Flag with rough, rudimentary high end guitar solos, Melbourne brand garage vocals (think King Gizz) and a sense that you’d need a four ton concrete road barrier to stop the band mid song. Listen to the Infernal Cakewalk EP and you’ll find that pause button is really hard to push. Tonight, catch the band headline a fundraiser at The Reverence Hotel for the Bolivian wildlife protection organisation Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi alongside a whole bunch of noisy kids from the surrounding area.
Joining Mesa Cosa will be Wet Pensioner, Purple Tusks, The Badlands (from way up in NSW), Join The Amish, Inverter Alter and Zulu Flow Zion. I don’t have time to check each one of these bands out, so if someone out there could click all those links, listen to all of their recorded works and send me an email ([email protected]) outlining which ones to review that would be awesome. If you want to actually write the review, that would be even better – we can pay you in long distance love and the sense of oneness and camaraderie that comes with being in the Happy family. Check out our contributors page for more details.
Doors open at 8:00pm on Saturday night, $15 at the door or $10 if you’re dressed as an animal or in tiki style. In summary: cheap beers and loud bands that save animals.
