Mindboy’s “drowning in your love” is a bite-sized pop banger that explores self-doubt in love and is both self-produced and immaculately produced.
Mindboy has released his latest single drowning in your love. An indie-pop gem drenched in raw guitars and synths, the song sees the Switzerland musician ruminate on self-doubt in the face of love’s enormity, comparing a dependent relationship to the act of drowning.
Acoustic strums open the track, as Mindboy describes a partner whose voice is “like poetry” atop steady percussion and backing harmonies. “I need you in my arms,” Mindboy yearns with whispery vocals, “I just can’t get enough.”
Coming in just under the two-minute mark, drowning in your love floats by with the blissful brevity of a daydream, with an intimate lyricism that seems to flow spontaneously from Mindboy’s stream of consciousness. The simplicity of drowning in your love— from its catchy hook to its airy atmospherics — belies what is actually a richly produced track.
“It’s about that one person who makes every moment a little bit more beautiful,” Swiss musician Mindboy said of his new single drowning in your love.
Perfecting the subtle flair of guitars, drums, and bass, Mindboy concocts a bite-sized and immaculate pop banger — an achievement doubly impressive given that drowning in your love is entirely self-produced.
“drowning in your love deals with self-doubt and love, and how a kind of dependency and obsession can form,” Mindboy said of the single in a press statement. “You have that one person who makes every moment a little bit more beautiful. This love can develop such a big meaning for someone that you literally drown in it.”
To package such thoughtful insights within the context of shimmery pop is no small feat. And yet, with two EPs and a host of singles under his belt, the success of drowning in your love is perhaps to be expected from Mindboy.
drowning in your love follows 365 days as the second single to be released by Mindboy this year. Prior to that, the musician shared standalone tracks Running and One Step Back last year, as well as the EPs Sunflower Saturday and Nights in 2020 and 2018, respectively.
