More like unleash the nipple, LAZERTITS go all out on Aubergine Dreams

Whether it’s the fact they have an entire track dedicated to very berry Vegan milkshakes, or the fact their tunes have been getting ‘tatas’ out all across the country since 2015, Melbourne based punk rock outfit LAZERTITS has garnered a slew of admirers across Australia. And with the release of their debut EP Aubergine Dreams there are sure to be a few more VB swigging folk jumping on board the titty train.

melbourne punk

LAZERTITS. Just let that name sink into your brain. Now turn the volume up and appreciate some of the best punk rock Melbourne has to offer.

With subtle nods to The Clash, and all the ‘pussy power’ charm of a 90s girl band, The Tits’ overall energy is one of home grown excellence. With Aussie accents galore, and power filled harmonising that rings through brash and bold on top of the instruments, the vocals on the record are every bit as trashy and appealing as you’d expect from a bunch of blossoming garage punk rockers.

With four tracks lasting a little over 10 minutes, the girls don’t beat around no burning bush, they’ve jumped straight in and given birth to real, relatable lyrics that are sure to hit any Aussie where it counts. Track one Dirty Brown Couch follows the narrative of a person whose greasy hair, and ‘up all night’ aesthetic simply doesn’t deter from the mysterious stains on their dirty brown couch. With spiralling riffs, and booming drum beats, 60s vibrations are present throughout DBC and the remaining tracks – a starry-eyed indulgence.

With choppy harmonisation, catchy riffs, and bucket loads of sass, The EP’s second track, Ladies, is an anthem; a celebration of being fucked up and fabulous gals who sit around a housemate’s room ‘drinking goon’ all day.

Shonen Knife is a swift one that lets loose, punchy instrumentation fall heavy amongst laid back vocals. The lyricism explores the notion of going together with another like Bert and Ernie, Avocado and Vegemite, and white shirts and dirt. Need I say more? As their name suggests, LAZERTITS are a brazen ball of fiery fun, emitting a certain light that suggests they’re kick ass both on record and live.

These five femme fatales have succeeded in creating punk that echoes the sounds of the past, yet speaks of today’s universal truths, with a little Spice Girls energy to change things up. So, if you’re keen to dive head first into some tits, you can grab Aubergine Dreams on BandCamp for a cool $10 and get their entire, upcoming LP the moment it’s released.
