Nesting’s new EP A Twiggy Home defies the boundaries of genre

Having spent the past number of years gigging around Melbourne, singer-songwriter Nesting (real name Jason Mackaway) has quickly built an incredibly unique sound for himself. His music feels simultaneously grounded and explorative; it’s rooted in folk, but reaches far wider.

With the release of his new EP A Twiggy Home, Mackaway continues to establish himself as one of Aussie music’s more exciting and unique emerging acts. If you’re not already familiar with this name, we strongly recommend you change that.

On his new EP A Twiggy Home, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Nesting presents an explorative and genre-defying collection of sonic gems.

Throughout the new EP, Nesting glides through a blend of folk, neo-classical, pop, and indie-rock to craft a sound that’s not quite like anything else currently making the rounds. His instrumental arrangements feel both rich and sparse, pulling you in with sprawling melodies.

Each track on the EP carries its own distinct identity—Mackaway very consciously selected these four tunes, avoiding any pigeonholes of genre. The result is a dynamic collection of songs that explore myriad sonic territories. Once the EP reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely by Nesting’s immersive music.

These are still relatively early days for this Melbourne artist, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes.

In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to A Twiggy Home above.
