Netflix has announced through a cryptic teaser trailer that Stranger Things will be returning to the platform for a fourth season, but no arrival date has yet been confirmed.
In addition to this, the Duffer Brothers have signed a multi-year film and series deal with Netflix, so the platform will be streaming plenty more epic material from their genius minds in the near future.
Netflix has released a cryptic new trailer for Stranger Things 4, and has signed a multi-year film and series agreement with the Duffer Brothers.
According to Deadline, the renewal of Stranger Things is part of the major deal that Ross and Matt Duffer signed with Netflix. Although details of the agreement haven’t been made available to the public, Deadline’s sources have said that it’s comparable to a huge “nine-figure” arrangement that Netflix has made with the creators of Game of Thrones, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.
“We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix,” said the Duffer brothers in an announcement about Stranger Things 4. “Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives. From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamt about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!”
Judging by the teaser trailer, though, it looks like the new season won’t just be based in Hawkins. The clip doesn’t give away much else; the Stranger Things 4 logo flickers into the Upside Down where it’s covered by vines, and the sound of chimes ring out while the text “we’re not in Hawkins anymore” flashes across the screen.
Considering that the finale of Stranger Things 3 unexpectedly ended up in a Russian prison, it makes sense that the new season moves away from Hawkins into some unexplored territories. Many questions remain, but there’s one resounding question for many of us – is Sheriff Hopper actually alive and being held as a prisoner in Russia? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
