Brand new pedal makers Space Sounds have released their 4th pedal: the Cosmic Tremolo. We went on a journey with it in the studio.
Space Sounds is a brand new company — they launched in October 2021 — that builds classic emulations of the great pedals of yesteryear. Their Galactic Fuzz made a splash on the scene with reviews and pedal stockists snapping it up.
They have just released their 4th pedal, the Cosmic Tremolo. It’s got a bigger range in frequency than most tremolos, and its small profile and affordability tick all the right boxes.
Upon unboxing the Cosmic Tremolo you feel like a kid in a candy store. We’re told all Space Sounds pedals come with a sealed box, sticker and the inside is lined with Space Sounds wrapping paper!
The bright green design — including a space traveller — is kitsch in all the right ways, and the use of solid knobs, toggle switch and footswitch are laid out nicely. With enough space around each part I was easily able to tweak the Tremolo to my liking. The Input, Output and power are all solid connections too.
Once plugged in — via a 9v DC power — the sound is as you would expect and no audio seems to change. In fact, the sound seemed warmer (for lack of a better term). My immediate love of this pedal was the frequency range of the Cosmic Tremolo. I own two tremolos and this pedal has a much bigger range than what I own.
The neat toggle switch between fast and slow mode almost sits in a spot that could be adjusted with a foot on a stage at a live performance.
The Frequency did exactly as I wanted, between full cut of signal or just a light wobble, and I have to say again, the knobs for Frequency and Depth are really pleasing to use.
I did wonder if users would know which was fast or slow mode, although as I said, the toggle switch sits firmly under the Depth knob, so it should be pretty straight forward if you have any confusion.
Going back to the sound, or may I say lack of, worked well for me. That’s what I don’t want from a tremolo — extra sound. To my ears, the Cosmic Tremolo did not add an colouration or a jump in volume.
I’m not going to bother complaining about no battery power, as no one is doing that these days, and I certainly am very happy with the size of this pedal. Height and profile are a winner for me. I do love the ‘Blast Off’ just below the footswitch, nice touch.
The Cosmic Tremolo comes in at a very affordable price of $159.
