Rejoice! NSFW content could be making a return to Tumblr

Pornhub Vice President Corey Price has said he is “extremely interested” in purchasing Tumblr, which means the site may once again house its beloved NSFW content.

Sexy content was removed from the site last year by Verizon, the parent company who purchased Tumblr from Yahoo in 2017. Removing NSFW content from the platform was damaging to users from the LGBTQIA+ community who’d forged a comparatively safe space in Tumblr. What’s more, the poor execution of the ban inadvertently removed non-pornographic material from a number of users’ accounts. Within months, traffic dropped by 30 per cent.

If Pornhub purchase Tumblr, it’s almost certain they’ll revoke the ban on erotic content implemented by current parent company Verizon.

According to people familiar with the matter, Verizon is looking to unload Tumblr due to traffic loss and poor revenue projections, lending Pornhub an opportunity to penetrate the market (sorry, I had to).

“Tumblr was a safe haven for those who wanted to explore and express their sexuality, adult entertainment aficionados included,” Corey Price said.

“We’ve long been dismayed that such measures were taken to eradicate erotic communities on the platform, leaving many individuals without an asylum through which they could comfortably peruse adult content.”
