Poison Oak’s ‘Around My Head’ redefines high-octane rock with brooding introspection and spellbinding melodies

Poison Oak’s latest single “Around My Head” is a captivating musical masterpiece that showcases the band’s remarkable ability to create poignant and evocative rock anthems, leaving an enduring impact on the listener with its unforgettable melodies and powerful guitar riffs

Poison Oak’s latest single “Around My Head” is a haunting and captivating piece of music that showcases the band’s talent for crafting dark, emotive rock anthems. From the opening notes of the guitar to the final fading chords, the energy and emotion of the song command your attention and demand that you stay engaged until the very end.

The Townsville crew is made up of musos Ray Pearson, James Balthes, Chris Reiterer, and Adrian Tarca, all of which have truly outdone themselves with this release. There’s a strong sense of high-energy rock mastery at play; gliding guitar solos balanced perfectly with the ear-worm from the vocals, with a cohesion in drums and bass that becomes a foundation for the nostalgic sound.

While it still retains the signature rock n roll sound that Poison Oak is known for, “Around My Head” takes a slightly different turn, offering up a darker, more introspective look into the rotating thought process that we all get stuck in sometimes, within our own minds.

From the captivating guitar tones to the haunting melodies, “Around My Head” draws comparisons to some of the greatest rock bands of all time, pulling influence from the iconic energy of Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Blink 182, and even a touch of Foo Fighters. These bands are known for blending a memorable chorus into the unapologetic grit of a rock anthem, and Poison Oak has followed suit with a chorus that’s undeniably catchy and will be stuck in your head for days to come.

Produced by Mike Myers, the song is a testament to the band’s growth and evolution as they prepare for the release of their debut album. The band’s previous release, “Found Myself”, gained international press attention and put them on the map, and “Around My Head” shows that they are here to stay.

In the words of James Balthes, “We worked on it for a while. Ray had the riff for the verse and the chorus. It was catchy and big. However, it was like a jigsaw puzzle after that. Putting the right pieces in the right spot until it all came together.” And come together it did. “Around My Head” is a masterpiece of dark harmonies, dirty riffs, and unforgettable lyrics that will keep its melody “around your head” for a long time to come.
