With the release of his debut album (an album seven years in the making), A Collection of Mr. Kite’s Open Mind, Ferson has quickly built himself as one of Aussie music’s most unique and exciting emerging acts. If you’re not already across this name, we strongly recommend you change that.

Throughout the new album, OM Collective floats through a hallucinatory melting pot of folk, indie-rock, and psychedelia to craft a sound uniquely his own. With lush instrumental arrangements and spirited vocal melodies, A Collection of Mr. Kite’s Open Mind is a sprawling, thirteen-track collection of pure listening bliss.
The album’s opening track, also titled A Collection of Mr. Kite’s Open Mind, immediately establishes the scope of the record. The song is a vibrant explosion of colour, and will open your mind to the sonic journey ahead.
From here, Ferson navigates myriad sonic territories—he never sits in one place for too long. One moment you’ll be transfixed by layers woozy of vocals, and the next you’ll be dancing uncontrollably to rich percussion. By the time the album reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely by OM Collective’s kaleidoscopic sounds.
Although this is only the first full-length album received from OM Collective, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material going forward. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to hear what he delivers next.
