PREMIERE: Duxie Franklin proves herself as one of Australia’s most interesting emerging songwriters on Watch Your Soul Sink

It was last August, with the release of her debut single Get A Real Job, that we were first introduced to the charming and quick-witted sounds of Melbourne based singer-songwriter Duxie Franklin.

With the release of the single, Franklin immediately established her penchant for crafting clever and poignant indie-rock gems. Today, Franklin has unveiled her latest single Watch Your Soul Sink, and while she has travelled in a different sonic direction for the new track, she never sacrifices any of her signature charm.

With the release of her new video for Watch Your Soul Sink, Melbourne based singer-songwriter Duxie Franklin has established herself as one of the country’s most unique and exciting emerging acts.

Throughout the new single, Duxie Franklin glides through a whimsical blend of folk, pop and indie-rock to craft a sound uniquely her own. With endearing vocal melodies and textured instrumentation, Watch Your Soul Sink feels starkly different to Franklin’s previous material, but still fits cohesively into her overall body of work.

Shot by Franklin’s longtime visual collaborator Chris Cobern, the song’s accompanying video marries Franklin’s own animated drawings with footage of her playing guitar at the historical model village, Old Hobart Town. Franklin’s animations bring the model village to life… and if this clip doesn’t warm your heart, you may want to check your pulse.

These are still relatively early days for this singer-songwriter, but judging by the quality of what we’ve seen and heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material from Duxie Franklin. Already, in a short amount of time, Franklin has built herself as one of the country’s most unique and exciting emerging acts. We strongly recommend you keep an eye on this name.
