Sydney based producer Gaelen has just released some of the tightest textural electronica of the impending summer. With effected vocals and exquisitely placed drops, Into The Sea is as dreamy as it is high energy.
Smoothly transitioning into layer upon layer of silky melodies and crashing beats, this track is a triumph.
Gaelen has spoken openly of the relevance of water in Into The Sea, its symbolic power, but also the security the silence provides.
The artist has said of the track; “The short but lingering moment of muffled calm when submerged underwater is a vivid and powerful experience for me, I think mimicking the cerebral submersion one does in the gentle pursuit of becoming content.”
Into the Sea is sensual and evocative, blending sharp, well articulated sounds with an indiscernible note of vulnerable catharsis.
Although Gaelen is self-taught, his attention to detail and feel for the depth of his own sound is overwhelmingly impressive. There’s a simplicity in his delivery but also an emotional complexity reflective of the meticulous attention to detail that has gone into his work.
This is carried throughout Into The Sea subtly, and you can’t help but feel wrapped up in the pulsating calm of the ocean. The track builds ever so slowly until you are helpless in its grips, lost in the swelling and rolling drops. Into the Sea could not be a more perfect title.
Gaelen is part of a local collective Mixo Lydian, a music production company working towards bridging the gap between acoustic and electronic music. They run events with their affiliated artists, and this of course includes Gaelen.
