Gaspar Sanz are back and sure to get tongues wagging with their latest clip for Scene of the Crime. With the five-piece delivering yet another psychedelic-charged banger, we can only imagine what future outputs from the band will hold.
Melding a smooth, surf-rock character with a high-energy pop style, Gaspar Sanz always manage to produce something special through their fresh and vibrant approach.
Formed in a small Leichhardt studio, Jimmy Bell (vocals), Sam Devenport (drums), Tim Grimes (guitar), Jesse Lawrence (guitar) and Dom Coulton (bass) are quickly carving out their own future in the Aussie psych rock scene.
Gaspar Sanz’ Scene of the Crime strikes hard through its spectacular take on the psych rock genre – not to mention the video is as mind-bending as the track.
The clip follows a vintage style detective coming to terms with some kind of Pepe Silvia type conspiracy. Coloured by moody pink hues and a brilliantly kitsch flavour, the video will melt your brain with a healthy dose of surrealism.
With building momentum and an entrancing tempo, the song erupts into a pulsating, space-aged soundscape. A union of organic and electronic sounds add just the right amount of funk and fuzz, while Bell’s ripper vocals transport you out of the galaxy.
The group’s previous jams On My Way and Watch You Go received play across triple j, racking up some impressive acclaim. The band then brought in 2018 with the release of I Swim, which reached number one on the Unearthed indie charts.
As a growing force on the live circuit, Gaspar Sanz have supported the likes of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Wesley Fuller and The Vaudeville Smash. It’s exciting times for the five-piece, who headlined their first show at the Oxford Art Factory just a few weeks ago. If Scene of the Crime is anything to go by, the future looks bright for these boys.
