There’s something undeniably hypnotic about the colourful, dynamic electro-pop of Kopano. Since releasing her EP The Malfunctions in 2017, the Perth-based artist has crafted an incredibly unique sound that explodes with charisma and character. She wears her influences proudly on her sleeve—La Roux and Goldfrapp—but extends sonically into new, exciting territories.
Now, with the release of her new single London, the vocalist/producer/visual artist further establishes her penchant for crafting infectious and proudly idiosyncratic gems of sound. If you’re not already across this name, we strongly recommend you change that.
On her new single London, Perth-based producer/vocalist Kopano crafts a bright and charasmatic slice of electro-pop gold.
Throughout the new single, Kopano glides through a spell-binding concoction of electronica, indie-pop, and psychedelia to deliver something entirely her own. With glassy synth-driven verses, huge cascading choruses, and unwaveringly addictive vocal lines, London is the kind of track you’ll have spinning on repeat for weeks.
Across its punchy three-and-a-half-minute duration, the song pulls in myriad directions—it never sits in one place for too long. One moment you’ll be floating through hallucinatory synth rivers, and the next you’ll be locked into a pounding psychedelic groove.
“My dad is from the UK and has always pushed me to move over to England, specifically London and I guess the song is about those feelings of excitement and unsettlement experienced when living abroad,” Kopano says of the new track.
“The actual vocal layering of the song which sings ‘sink myself in water’ is ultimately about me giving up and drowning myself in a place so familiar yet so foreign, that’s why the chorus is always describing me next to water, it’s like foreseeing the inevitable”
London is the first slice of new music we’ve recieved from Kopano in a couple of years, but judging by its quality, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes in the near future.
In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to the new single above.
