PREMIERE: Soak in the infectious energy of Mal De Mer’s new single Sunshine And Thunder

It was last year, with the release of their debut single Wet Socks, that we were first introduced to the dynamic indie-pop sounds of Perth-based five-piece Mal De Mer. Since then, they’ve gigged extensively around Western Australia, developing a truly unique sound for themselves.

Now, with the release of their latest single Sunshine And Thunder, the band continue to build themselves as one of the most exciting emerging acts in Aussie music. Of course, we’re stoked to be premiering it for you today.

Perth-based five-piece Mal De Mer have returned, and they’ve brought with them a seriously infectious new single, Sunshine And Thunder.

Throughout the new single, Mal De Mer navigate their signature blend of pop, surf-rock, and funk to deliver a sound truly their own. With spirited vocal hooks, shimmering synth lines, and groove-laden instrumentation, Sunshine And Thunder will seep into your bones and force your body to move.

While the song seems light-hearted and energetic on the surface, it carries some personal subject matter – as vocalist Saskia Fleming reflects on her relationship with her mother, and her support for the band. “This is all for you, it’s for me too,” she sings.

These still may be early days for this Western Australian quintet, but judging by what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes from Mal De Mer.

For now, do yourself a favour and listen to the new single above.
