PREMIERE: Winter Moon’s new track Who Are You is raw, untamed and hard-hitting

Melbourne based alternative-rock legends Winter Moon have released their new single Who Are You, and its hard-hitting and raw.

After two previous EP’s, the single marks the first peek at their upcoming album Make Real Make Believe, which is set to be released in May, with a tour that will take them to VIC, NSW and SA.

Alternative-rockers Winter Moon are back with a raw and hard-hitting single Who Are You, telling the story of a uniquely female experience.

The song is a poignant reminder of abuse, as lead singer Milly Moon’s emotive and powerful lyricism recounts a story all too common for many.

“I wrote it about a few experiences and in the theme of abuse, excuse or undermining that women too often experience. And we either crumble or come out more powerful – this is a song for owning that power, taking it back and laughing at your tormentors. Who are you to take a part of ME!”

She describes it as “a story that was heart-wrenching to write but long needing to be said about an experience too many women have and bury for shame or misreading their ‘fault’. It’s scary and exhilarating to be putting it out there”.

Who Are You incorporates heavy electric guitar chords, recurring high hat crashes, playful call and response instrumentation and soaring rock vocals wish a raspy edge.

Moon’s lyrics send a powerful message of ‘fuck you’ throughout the piece, with lines such as “You still think you’re the best anyone’s ever had” and “Does it ever make you queasy knowing that I felt uneasy?”. Winter Moon is launching the single tomorrow night at The Spotted Mallard in Brunswick, Melbourne.
