Prince has been honoured with his very own shade of his statement colour, purple.
The addition of the Love Symbol #2 colour hue is a nod to Prince’s legacy and musical brilliance which will always be remembered, as long as people are still wearing purple.
Since the release of Prince’s 1984 album Purple Rain, the singer acted accordingly, covering himself head to toe in purple every chance he got. From instruments to outfits, stage lighting to album covers, the colour was a constant theme throughout his music and career.
Given Prince’s love affair with the colour, it only seems fitting that the Pantone Colour Institute have created a shade of purple solely dedicated to the musician, in honour of his passing.
The shade was drawn from the colour of Prince’s custom-made Yamaha piano, which sadly never got to make its debut on Prince’s tour. The colour, named Love Symbol #2, is a deep shade of purple.
The vice-president of the Pantone Colour Institute, Laurie Pressman told The Guardian, “a musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”
Amen!
