Queens Of The Stone Age, Iggy Pop and The Raconteurs pay tribute to Anthony Bourdain

Queens Of The Stone Age, Matt Helders, Brody Dalle and The Raconteurs have all led tributes to the late Anthony Bourdain on what would have been his birthday this week.

Anthony Bourdain was a US TV chef, host, writer and journalist who died in France last year at the age of 61 years old. June 25 marked what would have been his birthday, and an ensemble of Bourdain’s musical friends and fans have contributed to a video encouraging people to mark ‘Bourdain Day’ by “exploring, experiencing and celebrating”.

Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme took to the camera after a variety of musician cameos: “They’re talking about Anthony Bourdain’s birthday,” “so remember our good friend Anthony Bourdain by celebrating on his birthday.”

Homme was a close friend and collaborator with Bourdain and also chose to share a touching letter that he wrote to his daughter. Sharing the letter on Twitter, Homme wrote: “Tony, I miss you bad. Once, Camille was so mad at you. She was defending me. And so were you. And you, with great care, such empathy, such sweetness… You apologized to a little girl who was defending her daddy.

Members of Royal Blood, Arctic Monkeys, The Kills and The Strokes are also among those to feature in the short clip, with the likes of Iggy Pop, U2 and Pearl Jam even paying tribute to Bourdain.

It is clear that Bourdain has had a lasting impression and influence on some of the world’s best musicians. As they remind us to celebrate “Bourdain Day,” maybe we should look back on some of his incredible work and appreciate his brilliance.
