Rad-A-Rama Garage Party

What would it take for you to travel all the way to the beachside suburbs? How does six bands, free entry and a chance to meet Tony Hawk?* Warming up for skateboarding festival Bowl-A-Rama on the 22nd, Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel is playing host to it’s own Rad-A-Rama tonight. As such, the highlight of the night will certainly be not only the various interstate musical delights, but also the blood on denim smell that emerges when you put an indoor skatepark in a pub. Yep, indoor skate park. At the pub.

The bands on offer are a little more than your average fare – Palms, Bad//Dreems, Drunk MumsThe Hollow Bones, The Stiffys and Lunatics On Pogo Sticks. If you haven’t already, check out every single one of these bands – Palms and Bad//Dreems in particular have been staples on the Happy office’s record rotation.

Lunatics On Pogo Sticks and The Stiffys are newcomers to Happy coverage, the former making feelgood pop-punk music reminiscent of pizza stains, dumb 90’s cartoons and Blink, while the latter have been making waves with the sheer number of shows they’ve appeared at. Take a listen to the deceptively simple Boogie Boarding, released independently last week. I say deceptively simple because the number of words in the song are the same as the number of people in the band – two – yet you’ll inadvertently find it sneaking into your head.

Doors open at 8pm and the show is gonna cost you absolutely nothing to attend – other than your time wrapping your head around public transport to the eastern suburbs.
