Rosie And The Quest deliver soulful affirmation on ‘I Can Do This’

I Can Do This by Rosie And The Quest is a feel-good tribute of self-affirmation that balances the softness of the strong future soul movement with a spirited sense of nostalgia.

Rosie And The Quest deliver a sunny, soul affirmation of self-love with their latest single and music video, I Can Do This.

The track radiates the vibe of a velvety summer afternoon with soft guitar and flowing bass to warm the heart, and lyrics embedded to be a personal reminder of self-belief.

Rosie and the Quest

Rosie And The Quest’s debut single dropped on March 13th, and was recorded with the talents of Declan Kelly (Bernard Fanning, King Tide, DK and The Rising Sun) and Drew Bisset at The Nest Studios.

The six-piece soul project from the Central Coast includes Rose Callaghan (Vocals), Joseph Smith (Keys), Brennan Fell (Bass), Jordan Gazzard (Synth/Guitar), Kyle McCallum (Guitar) and Luke Fabila (Drums). The single aims to tell a story through contrasting lyrics and melody which explore reflective and celebratory moments throughout the track.

The song has a distinct softness to it that subtly complements the subject matter. The swells in the melody give vibrancy where it’s needed, and the mellow feel of joyousness flows throughout.

It’s a refreshing change from the majority of self-love anthems that saturate contemporary music. Where others attempt to create confidence through punchy bass lines and energetic choruses, Rosie And The Quest let the lyrics speak for themselves and use music as a calming or restorative medium for this to translate.

I Can Do This channels the sunny soul ethos of tracks like Corinne Bailey Rae’s Put Your Records On, making you want to curl up in the afternoon sun with a cup of tea and be nostalgic for the present.

Filmed by Erin Comensoli, the music video reinforces the song’s feel-good themes through a spirited story of overcoming one’s fears and backing yourself. This is mainly done by dividing the video into three segments of contrasting aesthetic.

It begins with a sunny 70’s feel, with earth knit socks and jumpers as far as the eye can see. Then transitioning to a very pedestrian representation of overcoming self doubt and perseverance that almost disjointedly tries replicate the good vibes of the song through playful over-expression. However, the film reel at the end recapture the track’s sense of character and vibrancy, and really channels in to reflect the nuances of the lyrics.

The band will embark on a single tour for I Can Do This from February to March. You can also catch them performing alongside Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Kota Banks, Billsbry and Tiali Eliza on their respective tours.

I Can Do This is a personal reminder of the value of believing in yourself. As a debut single, Rosie and the Quest have succeed in balancing lyrical substance with an ambient subtlety that gives a distinctive personality to the track. The themes of nostalgia and self-love which channel throughout will speak to many listeners, while the melodic delicacy makes the track accessible to all.
