Salman Rushdie update “He’s going to live…That’s the more important thing”

Author Salman Rushdie has lost sight in one eye and the use of one hand following the brutal attack in New York.

After radio silence for the better part of 3 months, Author Salman Rushdie’s agent has finally shared an update on the author, via the Spanish newspaper, El Pais.

When asked how Salman Rushdie is doing? He responded: “[His wounds] were profound, but he’s [also] lost the sight of one eye… He had three serious wounds in his neck. One hand is incapacitated because the nerves in his arm were cut. And he has about 15 more wounds in his chest and torso. So, it was a brutal attack.”

When it came to divulging whether or not the author was still in hospital, it still remains very much under wraps.

“I can’t give any information about his whereabouts. He’s going to live…That’s the more important thing.”

Rushdie’s agent went on to liken the attack on Rushdie to that of John Lennon’s murder:

“I think the attack was probably something that Salman and I have discussed in the past, which was that the principal danger that he faced so many years after the fatwa was imposed is from a random person coming out of nowhere and attacking [him]. So, you can’t protect against that because it’s totally unexpected and illogical. It was like John Lennon’s murder.

Hadi Mata, the man accused of attacking the novelist has pleaded not guilty to second-degree attempted murder and assault charges. He is being held without bail in a western New York jail.
