Punk Rock enforcers Scared Of Sharks circle consumerism with new single Yuppie Land!

Scared Of Sharks take a sarcastic swing at those in the clutches of acquiring wealth and prestige with new track Yuppie Land!

Hailing from Morgareeka, punk outfit Scared Of Sharks are set to release their follow up single to debut Beach Wog, with Yuppie Land!

A swing at affluent youth and materialist capitalist culture with all the hallmarks of Australiana punk rock.

With a glib and goading energy, Scared Of Sharks launch a commentary against the yuppie culture they feel surrounded by – think American Psycho, Patrick Bateman surrounded by his fellow businessmen showing off their shiny new business cards.

Just like the seminal film was a commentary on the ruthless, appearance dictated horrors of Wall Street, Yuppie Land! bites back at the consumerism that is sweeping a town that was once hailed for its entirely lax energy.

An extremely catchy chorus takes amusing, sarcastic swings at those in the clutches of acquiring wealth and prestige.

Recorded at Noise Machine Studios and produced by both the band and Radi Safi, Yuppie Land! compares the current sociological state of Byron Bay to that of Los Angeles.

To be clear, this is an insult. Drawling half-spoken, half-sung vocals and fuzzed up major chord progressions give Yuppie Land! its sense of sardonic joy.

The desire to be a part of what Scared Of Sharks are preaching is strong – carefree and in absolutely no rush, the band stroll through the culture they so despise, calmly tearing it down one drum fill at a time.

Sophisticated songwriting and production allow Yuppie Land! to roam free, rather than at the behest of any constraints or expectations.

Vaguely reminiscent of Pixies during their softer moments, Scared of Sharks allow their collective personality to blaze through each moment of Yuppie Land!

From the title of the song itself to the cheerful backing vocals, Scared Of Sharks offer a fully realised sense of self, one that underlines their approachability and charisma.

Humour sprinkled throughout every second, but with the musicality to back it up, Yuppie Land! acts as a mission statement, and an example of what Scared Of Sharks are both capable of and aiming for.

With a slew of music set to be released and created, it is an apt time to join the rebellion that is Scared Of Sharks.
