Shining Bird deliver up a total mood of poignant Aussie rock in ‘Out Of The Black’

Aussie rock has never sounded so good, Shining Bird has dropped a new tune that is going to make you feel everything.

Shining Bird is back with their latest single, ‘Out Of The Black,’ following their 2021 album ‘Deadlands‘ and offering a taste of what’s to come with their fourth album set for release in 2024.

Our fav Wollongong band has been through some serious life changes in the past three years – three of them are now proud papas, and one even lucked out with twins. And yep, you can bet, these life changes have made their way into their music.

But better still they are still asking all the deep questions, which is why we love Shining Bird so much.

Shining Birds Russell Webster reflects, “Our attention has turned to things in front of and inside us. Love and loss. Interior landscapes and weather systems. The reasons for why we make and play music have evolved. Or have perhaps been remembered.”

‘Out Of The Black’ marks a new phase for Shining Bird. Once again teaming up with producer Tim Whitten, known for his work with The Go-Betweens, Powderfinger, and Augie March, the band also enlisted Greg Walker of Machine Translations for elegant string arrangements.

The song was recorded live to tape, capturing the band’s authentic energy, while Walker’s strings add a rich, emotive layer in his signature style.

From the outset, Shining Bird has operated on their own terms, producing distinct records that have garnered them multiple FBi SMAC Awards and album of the week honours from radio and media.

This independent spirit has earned them a dedicated fan base, drawn in by both their recordings and their dynamic live performances.

Their acclaimed live shows have led to opportunities supporting the likes of Midnight Oil, and sharing stages with international acts such as Kurt Vile, Father John Misty, and Beach House.

They’ve also delivered standout sets at major festivals including Panama, Fairgrounds, and Yours & Owls.

With ‘Out Of The Black,’ Shining Bird demonstrates an evolved sound that resonates with a touch of nostalgia.

Their upcoming album in 2024 promises to be a milestone in their already impressive discography, and we can all look forward to what’s sure to be a significant release.
