SKATERS

Making sweet noise from almost 10,000 miles across the globe are New York City band, SKATERS. With just over 2 years of experience in playing together, the boys of SKATERS have already been compared to the giant musical powerhouse that is The Strokes.

As pioneers of the early 21st century garage rock revival, such a comparison is one that so many rock bands will only ever dream of. But with all that being said, I think that it’s SKATERS’ music that really does the talking.

SKATERS new music

No confirmation as to whether they actually skate or not, but it doesn’t really matter. New York City based SKATERS play garage-y, post-punk sweetness.

Michael Ian Cummings, Noah Rubin, Josh Habbard and Dan Burke are the founding members that make up the SKATERS quartet. They thoughtfully combine elements of post-punk and new wave into a delicious garage rock sound – it’s infectious, it’s relevant, and it’ll keep you coming back for more.

Listening to SKATERS will no doubt send those post-punk garage vibes rockin’ their way through your system. Since the success of their 2012 EP Schemers, SKATERS released their highly anticipated debut album entitled Manhattan in February of this year, which was recorded in Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios. Bearing sonic similarities to groups like Two Door Cinema Club and the Arctic Monkeys, SKATERS are well on their way to the international success and recognition that they deserve.

To all the lucky bastards who got their hands on Splendour tickets this year – congratulations, I hate you. SKATERS will be playing on the final day alongside Lily Allen, CHVRCHES and D.D Dumbo. For the rest of us, we now have reason to be happy because SKATERS have announced not one, but TWO Australian sideshows.

If the Facebook responses from Aussie fans such as ‘omg we have to go I love them’, ‘please get me some tickets!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!’ and ‘hell fuck yeah’ are anything to go by – SKATERS will be very warmly welcomed to our shores. Tickets for the SKATERS sideshows go on sale at 9am this Friday, the 9th of May.

Dates and venues for their Australian tour are as follows. And make sure you check out their Smiths cover below! THIS CHARMING MAN!
