Western Australia’s Stella Donnelly takes out the inaugural Levi’s Music Prize at Bigsound

Western Australia never stops giving, and fresh face Stella Donnelly wowed everybody at Bigsound.

Taking out the inaugural Levi’s Music Prize, Donnelly was up against the likes of West Thebarton, Ziggy Ramo, POW! Negro, Ruby Fields and Baker Boy. Her rich and witty lyricism is unparalleled, and she is more than deserving of the recognition.

Stella Donnelly

Speaking for women and men alike, the music of Stella Donnelly traverses bad Tinder dates, sexual assault and working behind a bar.

Good humoured and wonderfully kind, Donnelly accepted the award with grace, stating “BIGSOUND has been an incredible experience.”

“There have been so many brilliant artists playing every night and just to be a part of this musical community has blown my mind. To be chosen as the Levi’s Music Prize winner is an absolute shock, surprise and honour.”

Her latest single Mechanical Bull has been added to rotation on triple j and is already receiving a huge response. We can’t wait to see where this incredible young artist takes her music.

Levi’s will be handing out three more instances of the $25,000 Music Prize this year, making for a $100,000 prize pool total.
