Steve James’ new single Enchanted is brimming with DIY energy

Launceston local Steve James released his self recorded and engineered track Enchanted back in May.

Stephen started writing and recording music under his own name to get back to his songwriting roots after his project The Planets Collide finished releasing music. The newly released solo work from the artist shows a shift in sonic direction from his previous work, an evolution that continues to shine with each new release.

A psych-rock track at its core, Steve James infuses a blend of soaring vocal melodies over a perfect storm of instrumentals on Enchanted to provide a vivid backdrop for his thoughts and personal experiences.

Enchanted shows a healthy amount of progression from the self-produced Tasmanian artist, whose debut solo track Rewired launched last November. Smarter, more concise songwriting leads Enchanted to be instantly more captivating than its predecessor, and Steve’s use of his newly acquired recording gear adds additional charm to the production.

All through the new single, Steve blends elements of old school garage, proto-punk, folk, and indie-rock to craft a sound uniquely his own. With rich instrumental arrangements and endearing vocal hooks, Enchanted is brimming with infectious DIY energy.

These are still relatively early days for Steve James, but judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes. In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to the new single above.
