Aus’ first pride music festival, Summer Camp 2022 line-up is here

Australia’s first touring pride festival, Summer Camp, will be a celebration of freedom and diversity – a divine way to send off summer 2022.

UPDATE: As of Monday January 24th, Summer Camp has been postponed due to the current outbreak of COVID-19 in Australia. Read a statement from the festival’s organisers below.

The inaugural Summer Camp Festival’s line-up has dropped, and it’s filled with fun. Headlined by Years & Years, Big Freedia, and more, it’s the all-inclusive celebration of Australia’s diverse musical tapestry we need this summer.

The festival will tour through Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in February and March 2022.

Summer Camp 2022 line-up

Founded by the creator of Heaps Gay, Kat Dopper, and the creators of Red Mgmt, former Sydney Mardi Gras Marketing and Internationals Talent Managers, Grant Gillies and David Gillett, Summer Camp has a focus on bringing LGBTQIA+ artists to the front.

Headliner Years & Years, also known as Olly Alexander, has had a massive 2021.

From staring in an award-winning global hit drama, It’s a Sin, to collab-ing with pop royalty the likes of Lady Gaga, and Kylie Minogue, to performing at the Brits with one Sir Elton John – he’s truly having a moment.

New Orlean’s bounce legend Big Freedia will also be gracing the stage alongside the likes of Cub Sport, The Veronica’s, Confidence Man, Ladyhawke, Young Franco, and oh so many more.

Summer Camp has a strong inclusivity mission, and the vibrant festival is placing a priority on ensuring accessibility, and adhering to health and safety protocols. You absolutely love to see it.

It truly will be a safe, glorious experience, where one and all can indulge in music, dance, performance art, culture, art installations, and delicious offerings of food and beverage.

Tickets are on sale now – get them here.

UPDATE: Summer Camp has been postponed due to the current COVID-19 outbreak around Australia. Organisers shared the below message to fans, urging them to hold their tickets for a new set of dates to be announced soon.

“It’s with a heavy heart we have to let you know that Summer Camp Festival on Feb 26th, 27th, March 6 is postponed due to the current outbreak of Covid-19.

We’ll be back very soon with the new dates for the festival and so many more surprises so please hold on to your tickets. Not only is Summer Camp Festival going ahead, it’s going to be queerer and camper than ever.

With just over four weeks until our first show and government restrictions around outdoor singing and dancing still in place, it’s not feasible for us to proceed when we have performers from the UK, USA, NZ and over 150 local artists from across Australia on a touring show to multiple states each with their own complexities and restrictions.

We have been working on this new festival for more than two years and want nothing more than to finally come together to dance and celebrate queer culture in all of its finest, but we’ll have to hold onto our camp carabenas for now.

We want to create a space for audiences that is colourful, unapologetic & outrageously fun, without limitations (this includes dancing like everyone is watching) but most of all, is safe.

Our hearts go out to all the artists, promoters and venues that are going through this (again), and to all the audiences who have events cancelled time after time in the last few years. Thank you for supporting the arts. Stay with us. x”
