“The next chapter in the venue’s colourful history”: Sydney’s World Bar will reopen as Cali Club

We’ve got great news for all you clubbers and live music lovers out there; The World Bar  will be reborn as Cali Club this week.

The famed venue closed its doors just weeks ago, but has since been taken on by hospitality duo Matt Weir and Dane Gorrel, who were behind the recent re-opening of Club 77 on William Street.

The World Bar has been saved and is re-opening this month as Cali Club. Come and see the new venue for yourself when it re-opens this Wednesday.

“We need to preserve our nightclub institutions. We really want to help keep the candle burning for our city’s night life and continue the venue’s legacy,” says Gorrel.

The two will spend the next few months getting a feel for the suburb and the venue, while The Wall, World Bar’s mid-week club nights, return from next Wednesday.

Gorrel and Weir are set to collaborate with various entertainment agencies to bring in new music each week – from hip-hop one week to afro beat and house the other.

Weir says, “Night clubs provide a space for artists and DJs to cut their teeth and connect with people through their music.”

“World Bar means a tremendous deal to a lot of people, so we like to think of Cali Club as just the next chapter in the venue’s colourful history,” says Gorrel.

The venue opens its doors on Wednesday December 12th from 3pm.
