Adult Brooklyn band mates, TEEN represent American alternative rock at its best. Back in 2010 when the vadility of your grunginess was based on all black everything, Kristina ‘Teeny’ Lieberson, (the former keyboardist from Brookyln’s Here We Go Magic), her two sisters Katherine, Lizzie and Boshra Al Saadi grouped together to form TEEN.
Amazing new video and single from familial US trio TEEN – on tour in Euroland now!
Teen are mellowed down rock, in the same general ballpark as Warpaint and Haim and not just because Haim are also a band of sisters. They have been known to describe themselves as ‘psychedelic gospel’ – an odd combination but bear with us.
Tied Up Tied Down, marks the second single from TEEN’s sophomore album The Way and Color, both of which are available for digital purchase now. With the help of cinematographer extraordinaire Fidel Ruiz-Healy, TEEN’s video for their latest single was more a picturesque film than a generic music video. Filled with delicate cinematography and magic authenticity this video was directed by Jordan Michael Blake and the video tells of the high and lows of teen love with surreal, psychedelic twists making for a warped take on the summer beach movie.
The video starts with a young girl who has been washed up on the ocean bed and vomits blood onto the sand. The rest of the video tells the story of being tied up and tied down by teen hood. Teen’s single is not only catchy but so terrifically melancholic that it makes listening, a teenage dream, as it were.
Turning from the melodic psych of their previous efforts, The Way And Color shows the group of young adults confidently shifting direction with their distinctly modern, R&B-informed pop. TEEN changed their sound direction this year and used their album to attempt a new and ambitious sound recorded in the heart of New York.
This only proves that no matter how much TEEN love New York, it can never bring them down. Before The Way of Colour there was a collection of other EPs: Little Doods (2011), In Limbo and Carolina. TEEN are ambitious young adults who sing their hearts out about all things real teens know all too well.
