The Game Awards 2021: the best new games announced at the event

The Game Awards 2021 are hitting us with some seismic announcements. Here are the best new games that have been announced live at the event.

The Game Awards 2021 is one of the most anticipated events in the gaming industry’s calendar, mostly because of the fantastic announcements they get to make. Over the years, Geoff Keighley’s awards ceremony/hype machine has become synonymous with big news and the best new games.

Here is the complete list of the best new games that were announced at The Game Awards 2021.

Star Wars Eclipse

A lot of Star Wars fans weren’t thrilled with the latest trilogy of films. So it might be appreciated that the newly revealed Star Wars Eclipse is being developed by Quantic Dream, the company behind cinematic games such as Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. If they can’t get the films right, perhaps they can get the right video game made that feels like a film.

Sonic Frontiers

It looks like everyone’s favourite electric blue hedgehog may have finally found himself a new game that can live up to his stellar reputation. Boasting some gorgeous graphics and an expansive world that looks like it will be a joy to sprint through, Sonic Frontiers is one of the big new games announced at The Game Awards 2021.

Dune Spice Wars

A brand new 4X strategy game that is set in the world of Dune, already one of 2021’s massive phenomena, is enough to make fans as thirsty as the driest sandworm on Arrakis. This one is a definite nod to forgotten 1992 classic that was hugely influential in the RTS video game scene. The biggest new video game tie-in of The Game Awards 2021?

Alan Wake 2

The sequel to 2010’s Alan Wake has been a long time coming, and many fans expected to see something at The Game Awards 2021 after the original’s remaster earlier this year. Apparently this one will be a survival-horror experience, whereas the first game was more a creepy action title. And by the way, is that Keanu Reeves or am I going crazy?

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2

What would The Game Awards 2021 be without a little bit of Warhammer getting in on the action? Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 2011 shooter of which it gets its name. Expect to see loads of aliens, bloodshed and oversized armor…in more fidelity and detail than even the finest hobbyist could possibly hope to achieve.

Wonder Woman

It looks like DC Comics’ favourite Amazonian warrior woman is getting her own state of the art video game. The teaser trailer doesn’t give much away, but it looks pretty damn sleek.

Among Us (VR)

While perhaps not the kind of game we expected to see announced at The Game Awards 2021, Among Us in VR is such a wild progression we are going to include it on this list. It’s going to be one weird, trippy experience playing Among Us in this new perspective.
