Firstly, if you haven’t already listened to the last three singles from The Land Of Rah—Arevil’s Garden (Rip), Rhino Real Talk, and Valenfall—stop what you’re doing and go listen to them now. Jumping into their expansive sonic universe at this point kind of feels like starting a television series in the third season. It’ll still be enjoyable, but you’ll get a lot more out of it if you start from the beginning.
Over the course of the past few months, the Sydney outfit have developed a sound that stretches across myriad genres; it’s brilliantly inventive and endlessly imaginative. Now, they’re back with another new double single, Sylys the Wizard of Reflection.
The Land Of Rah have returned with a mind-bending new double single, further establishing their unwillingness to be categorised.
The first half of this new double single, Slylys Pt. II (Mirror Maze), is a formless pool of sound driven by unconventional jazz rhythms, druggy samples, and (dare I say) hip-hop beats. Each sound feeds into an intricate whirlpool of psychedelia. From here, we’re guided seamlessly into Slylys Pt. III (Invisible Henchmen); a dark electronic track that will pull you deep into this musical wormhole.
With this latest release, The Land Of Rah have further established their unwillingness to be categorised, and the results are really quite exciting. Here, we have a musical project that is truly unpredictable — not in a naff, cliché, music journalist way, but truly unpredictable. We’ve got no clue what The Land Of Rah will deliver next, but we sure as hell can’t wait to hear it.
