Right on time: Melbourne’s Palais Theatre is set to reopen after $20 million renovation

Historic Melbourne venue The Palais is set to reopen just in time for the St Kilda Film Festival.

In a bold move, touring company Live Nation have taken over The Palais Theatre in Melbourne’s St Kilda and after a $20 million refurbishment the iconic venue is opening its doors.

Live Nation has taken on a three decade lease of the landmark and enlisted the help of both the Port Phillip Council ($7.5 million) and the Victorian State Government ($13.5 Million) to make the transformation possible.

Still in the stages of renovation, the first half of the enormous project is complete, making it possible for the venue to host the St Kilda Film Festival.

Melbourne’s Mayor Bernadine Voss commented;

After facing closure when requiring critical repairs, The Palais has been well and truly saved for generations to enjoy… We are excited that Council’s film festival is the first of many fantastic events to be enjoyed at this rejuvenated St Kilda landmark. We thank the Palais management for having the theatre ready for the festival opening in the midst of the second stage of works.”

The final stages of the massive project are due for completion come October 2017 and we cannot wait to see the finished product, could this call for a work trip to Melbourne?
