Singer-songwriter Tom Odell returns with Somebody Else, the latest single lifted from his just-announced album Black Friday.
Tom Odell has announced his upcoming new album, Black Friday. Set for release in January of next year, the much-anticipated follow up to 2022’s The Best Day of My Life has been previewed by the lead single and title track Black Friday, which arrived in September.
The Black Friday album is said to find Odell amid a newfound sense of freedom and creative control, with each track recorded simply by the musician in his own studio.
The 13-track project will encompass a return to form for longtime Odell fans, as well as fresh sonic territory sure to win over legions of new listeners.
“I recorded these songs between last winter and the spring of this year,” Odell said in a press statement. “I tried to leave them as ‘unproduced’ as possible with the hope that they would be the truest reflection of how I felt in that time.” Alongside the title track, Odell has released Black Friday’s second single, a piano-driven track titled Somebody Else.
Co-produced by Odell and longtime collaborator Cityfall, the latest preview coasts on an understated arrangement of emotive vocals and sparse acoustic guitar.
Lyrically, Somebody Else sees Odell muse on a past partner who’s now found love elsewhere, with the singer lamenting that they’re “probably waking up in somebody else’s arms.”
Black Friday adds to an already impressive string of successes for Odell, who won the prestigious BRIT Award in 2013 and has since landed among the top 100 most streamed artists in the world. Elsewhere, Odell has hit the late night circuit with a recent performance of Black Friday on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
On top of all that, Odell is currently on the road in North America as part of his biggest tour yet, with shows slated at iconic venues across the continent until late-2023.
