Vampire Weekend debut new material at Lollapalooza aftershow

During a performance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza over the weekend, New York indie-rock outfit Vampire Weekend announced that their new album is complete.

However, they waited until the aftershow at Chicago’s Metro to play the new material for a live audience. No, they did not play the songs live. Instead, Ezra Koenig plugged in his phone and played the new tracks over the venue’s PA.

Ezra Koenig plugged in his phone and debuted five new Vampire Weekend tracks during a performance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza aftershow.

Koenig sat atop the speaker and debuted five songs from the upcoming album, which currently has a working title of Mitsubishi Macchiato.

A user on reddit gave a detailed review of the performance, writing: “The new stuff was very cool and def good but looking forward to hearing it on good headphones. Last song he played was my favourite easily.”

It’s been five years since Vampire Weekend’s last album Modern Vampires Of The City dropped, and it doesn’t look like we’re going to have to wait much longer for more.

And judging by this one reddit user’s reaction, we’re in for something special.
