When Lander Elementary School Principal Felecia Evans posted a video of year-five students jammin’ out to Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road for a talent show, she couldn’t have guessed the response from the country-rapper himself, tweeting “when they want a free show…”
This little internet exchange led to the surprise that took place in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, as the Atlanta rapper came through for the “biggest show of my life” in front of an entire hall of screaming school children.
Hundreds of elementary school children lose their shit to Lil Nas X’s surprise live performance of Old Town Road at their end-of-year show.
During the end-of-year show, Principal Evans announced to the kids that she was about to perform her final magic trick. Then emerged Lil Nas X in his full country get-up to put on a live performance of Old Town Road to his youngest, but rowdiest, fans.
The reaction is insane.
A sea of hundreds of elementary school children absolutely losing their shit. A crazy mosh of giddy, hysteric country-rap fans that don’t miss a line of the chart-topping song.
And as if this isn’t wholesome enough, Lil Nas X even took the time to meet the kids. After his performance, he spent time walking down the hallway and stopping for every high-five and selfie pic.
Complex captured and shared the video so we get in on the action:

“SAW THESE KIDS TURNIN UP TO OLD TOWN ROAD 5 DAYS AGO AND HAD TO COME THRU AND PERFORM ONE TIME,” Lil Nas X posted after on Instagram. “LOVE THESE MOMENTS!”
