On this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, the musical guest was none other than Talking Heads‘ frontman, David Byrne.
Byrne took to the stage to perform a theatrical rendition of the Talking Heads classic, Once in a Lifetime, as well as the BPA collaboration, Toe Jam.
In his first Saturday Night Live performance in 31 years, David Byrne returned to perform a rendition of Talking Heads’ hit, Once in a Lifetime.
The episode was hosted by comic John Mulaney who is a former SNL writer. It was Mulaney’s third time hosting the show, following appearances in 2019 and 2018.
Byrne began his performance of Once in a Lifetime solo. He was then joined in the choruses by live performance members from his hit Broadway show, American Utopia.
The last time Byrne appeared on the show was in 1989, when Woody Harrelson was hosting. The appearance saw Byrne perform two songs from his debut solo album, Rei Mono.
In other news, Byrne recently announced that American Utopia will be returning for another 17-week stage run this September. It was also recently revealed that Spike Lee would be directing a film adaptation of the show. The adaptation is set for release later this year.
