After two decades apart, riot grrrl pioneers, Bikini Kill, reunited on stage in New York for a surprise performance on the weekend.
Watch riot grrrl icons Bikini Kill take to the stage together for the first time in over 20 years below.
Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail and Kathi Wilcox took to stage at The Kitchen in New York City during a launch event for Pitchfork editor Jenn Pelly’s 33 1/3 book about The Raincoats‘ self-titled album.
They performed just one song, For Tammy Rae, which you can watch a snippet of below, before The Raincoats themselves took to the stage. It was the first time the band have played together since they broke up in 1997.
According to Pitchfork, Pelly said she had “no idea” the reunion was going to happen. The night was put together by The Kitchen and Raincoats collaborator Shirley O’Loughlin.
