Watching Wolves run us through the artists that have helped shape their sound

Last week, when Watching Wolves released their new single Vitals, we were immediately immersed in their earnest indie-rock sounds. The band craft music with an authenticity seldom found in rock music nowadays… so if you haven’t already listened, we strongly recommend you do so now.

Fresh off the release 0f Vitals, we caught up with the band for a run-down of artists that have influenced their music. Take it away gents…

Fresh off the release of their incredible new single Vitals, we caught up with Watching Wolves for a run-down of the artists that have influenced their music.

As a band we draw inspiration from bands that are known for really high-energy live shows, think Nothing But Thieves, Royal Blood, The Wombats and Kings Of Leon.

Originally as a three-piece, we were deeply rooted in a rockabilly punk style similar to Australia’s own The Living End, who were a massive inspiration to us while we were growing up.

But as our frontman, vocalist and guitarist Reid Brownhill’s unique perspective and songcraft have developed, we began to form a sound that was uniquely our own, drawing inspiration and influence from a variety of artists and genres.

Our songs began to draw on a storytelling feel that reminisced and lamented over all of life’s beauties and tragedies.

What began as rockabilly-punk, quickly transformed into harder hitting, heavier riffs after Hayden Smith joined the band on drums in early 2015.

Heading in a new direction musically, we quickly left behind our original sound and released our first EP Universes in the winter of 2017, our first track Circles showcased this newly inspired sound.

We began and continued to draw ideas and inspiration from artists such as Nothing But Thieves, Circa Waves, The Wombats, Gang of Youths, Royal Blood, Biffy Clyro, Hockey Dad, Kings of Leon and most recently Trophy Eyes.
