What went down at 5 x 5 x 5: Happy Mag’s 5th Birthday

Last Friday night Happy Mag celebrated our 5th Birthday, inviting over 20 artists for a top-to-bottom takeover of the iconic Kings Cross Hotel. The party raged from 7pm through ’til close and to be honest, some of us are still feeling it.

The night featured live performances from the likes of The Goon Sax, C.O.F.F.I.NDro Carey, Brightness, Baby Beef, Sunscreen, and way more. Not to mention the DJs who kept the tunes spinning all over, including Pablo, DJ Goodboy, and others.

The JBL Stage on the pristine rooftop hosted many of those DJs, who treated the room to a steady dose of house, disco, and good time classics. As the sun set it was an idyllic place to be, and as the night went on it only got busier and busier.

The Zippo Stage on Level 4 played host to a string of killer guitar bands, with The Goon Sax at the helm. Punters were hit hard by sets from C.O.F.F.I.NSunscreen, Annie Hamilton and the always spectacular The Uplifting Bell Ends.

On Level 3, The Sennheiser Stage welcomed DJ sets from Dro Carey, Molach, and Lovejoy, along with a modular synth live set courtesy of Land Systems. Here, the bass thumped from open ’til close.

The Balcony Stage was another dream spot, hosting stripped down or acoustic sets from the likes of Brightness, Ainsley Farrell, Ruben Neeson, and more. Meanwhile just below on The JMC Academy Stage, the hotel entrance was kept lively by performances from Baby Beef, Luke Spook, Phat Reef, Otis Thomas, and more.

Happy Mag’s 5th Birthday marked the opening night of Bacardi and Kings Cross Hotel’s Summer of Music 2.0, a stacked live music program running through the silly season until a massive closing party on March 14th, 2020. Find out more about Summer of Music 2.0 here.

See you when we turn six!

Special thanks to our partners Bacardi, Zippo, JBL, Sennheiser, JMC Academy, and Young Henrys.
