Sydney’s Winston Surfshirt have just announced the arrival of their second album, Apple Crumble.
The new album will mark the band’s second full-length, carrying on the dessert theme after 2017’s Sponge Cake. Tasty.
Winston Surfshirt will be celebrating the imminent release of Apple Crumble by heading around the country on a regional tour.
Winston Surfshirt have been receiving significant attention and recognition after their recent tour and a killer set at Splendour in the Grass.
The band have also dropped a taste of what to expect from the new record with buttery lead single Smile. The tune enlists sharp hooks, shimmering rhythms and of course, Winston’s unmistakably sultry, soul-driven vocals.
Winston detailed the inspiration behind the song, sharing:
“I’ve been with the same woman for 14 years and she has the most contagious smile. I think I was always meant to write this song…”
The group’s first hit album bound together airy vocals with R&B and hip-hop sensibilities, tipping its hat to a number of international influences. Having developed a cult following for their smooth style and energetic live shows, the band’s unique sound originally emerged as the solo project of Winston Surfshirt, before organically adopting other local artists and snowballing into what’s now a musical collective.
