While there’s no shortage of big Aussie hip hop and indie acts headlining this year’s Come Together, the Sydney festival is also known for its tradition of showcasing a number of new and talented up and comers which have sprung up via triple J unearthed. If you’re heading along to Luna Park in June you’re probably already all across the headliners Seth Sentry, Thundamentals, Horrorshow, Ball Park Music and The Jungle Giants, but there’s also a slew of emerging talent to round out the bill.
There’s nothing more exciting than discovering a new artist and Come Together will be the place for the most electrifying and memorable festival performers.
Ecca Vandal
A real new comer to the Australian music scene, Ecca’s music is a chaotic collision of hip-hop, punk rock and just about anything else. Think Royal Blood meets Bjork and M.I.A.. Pegged for a chaotically awesome performance, this is probably something you won’t see again.
Montaigne
Stage persona of Sydney’s Jessica Cerro, this girl has a spectacular vocal range and an incredible amount of songwriting talent. Emerging last year and already establishing her presence in Australia and abroad at the tender age of 19, she’s certainly one to watch. Her knack for combining uniquely introspective lyrics with an ambient and catchy pop sound gives her music an intimate and emotive vibe that will make her performance stand out against the rest of the festival bill.
Safia
Hailing from Canberra, Safia are an electro-indie pop three-piece whose impressive production skills are equally matched by their charismatic live performances. In 2013 the outfit have showcased their talents supporting the likes of Lorde and Disclosure, shared a touring bill with festival contemporary Elizabeth Rose and played sets at last year’s Groovin The Moo and St Kilda Festival. Members of the group will also be performing as part of Aussie electro house mainstay Peking Duk at U.S. mega festival Coachella. Definitely worthwhile for a soulful chilled-out electro pop fix.
Elizabeth Rose
Without a doubt, Elizabeth Rose is one of Australia’s top electronic artists. DJ, producer, singer-songwriter and media darling all in one, the Sydney local will be bringing her upbeat, yet moody synth flavoured electronica to Come Together. With a number of collaborations with producers Sinden, TOKiMONSTA, Nina Las Vegas and Togetherness as well as some Flight Facilities and Jinja Safari remixes to add to her own material there’s no doubt that she’ll turn out a killer set.
Remi
A hot hip-hop three-piece group fronted by Remi Kolawole, these Melbournians took out triple j Unearthed’s Artist of the Year in 2013 and have been busy over since touring across Australia. The energy of the group’s characteristically rhythmic and tongue in cheek beats in conjunction with Remi’s has a larger than life stage persona has earned the band a reputation as a killer live act. With a number of headline club shows, Falls, Pushover and St. Kilda Festival performances as well as opening sets for Joey Bada$$ and the Under Achievers, The Pharcyde and Illy under their belts there’s little doubt these guys will be in fine form. Remi are often joined on stage by a number of guest musicians hailing from any number of genres, making no two shows alike.
