5 artists from Victoria that we’re digging right now

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when we scour the depths of Australia and New Zealand to bring you some raw talent as part of our Needle in the Hay vinyl competition.

Victoria has a powerhouse when it comes to cranking out young bands and artists, so this was a pretty bloody difficult job. But nevertheless, we’ve scoured the web to bring you five of our favourite artists coming out of that iconic southern state.

We’re looking all over Australia and New Zealand, giving one artist the chance to press their single to vinyl. Here are 5 artists from Victoria we’re digging.

Tobiahs

At just 20 years old, Tobiahs is already proving himself as a stand out producer. Having won the chance to play at FOMO 2019, Tobiahs brings together dance, electronic, R&B and hip- hop to create something smooth and sensual.

His single Sculpted has received attention and radio play on triple j and triple j unearthed. Check the track out below and get ready to feel some bliss.

Bakers Eddy

Bakers Eddy are a Melbourne based four-piece of self described “slacker mates”. Their upbeat punk rock stylings won them a one way ticket to the 2018/19 Fall Fest stage, alongside big names like Anderson .Paak and CHVRCHES.

Banging track Leave It To Me brings you the nostalgia of teen angst pop-punk with all the trimmings. Give it a listen below and try not to bop.

murmurmur

If you feel like you need some ooey-gooey floaty goodness in your life, then you need to hear murmurmur. This indie psych five piece are the perfect antidote to your shitty day, with lush synths, warm vocals and guitar riffs from the heavens.

They just played Beyond the Valley, and their track Cable Car demands to be heard and soaked all the way in. Get around it below.

RAT!hammock

RAT!hammock reminds me of being 15 in all the best ways. Their lo-fi indie rock sounds like school holidays before responsibilities ruined my life. Don’t know what that means? Neither do I really, but it’s too good to care.

Fresh off the back of their Laneway 2019 set, RAT!hammock only have good things coming to them. Give their track June a listen below.

Alice Skye

Hailing from country Victoria, Alice Skye is a singer and songwriter with some serious chops. The young pianist expertly intertwines beautiful lyricism and storytelling. A young Wergaia woman, she won the 2018 National Indigenous Music Award, and things can only keep getting better.

Her tune Poetry By Text is so smooth and sultry, you can’t help but move along to it. Wrap your ears around it below.
