Indie rock newcomer Mike Holm sets us off with his latest single In Time. An emotionally profound track, it explores the ideas of perfectionism and anxiety.
As Holm divulged “It’s written about the struggles of pushing yourself to achieve more than what is meant for you and the stress that comes with that. The song is about becoming free and allowing things to happen in time.”
And free pretty much nails it on the head. With resounding piano lines and seriously catchy drums, it’s a simple track but somehow the sparse beats and far out vocals come together to make sense.
With an EP I’m Afraid, I’m Afraid in the pipeline, In Time is the perfect introduction to the sparse and poetic narrative of Mike Holm.
Up to this point all we’ve heard from Holm is a few demos and a stunning cover of Gotye’s Hearts A Mess. This release comes as an exciting development in his sound and one which promises great things for the future.
He’s most definitely one to watch, his raw take on indie rock traverseing the sonic corners of the genre. Incorporating a sophisticated spin on drums and guitar, Holm is tapping into the honesty of his influences, using the instrumental as a mere backdrop for his story.
His message is real and totally accessible, relevant to any young musician starting out, the pressure to be more than we are capable of being, acknowledging the difficulty in achieving the goals we set for ourselves.
Mike Holm is a fresh and exciting voice and one with huge potential. We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming EP.
