Introducing the raucous, distinctly Australian pub-punk sounds of Boing Boing

Hailing out of Far North Queensland, Boing Boing belt out a chaotic brand of distinctly-Australian, beer-soaked pub-punk. Their music frantic, it’s raw, and strangely charming.

Since forming in 2017, the Cooktown four-piece have gigged extensively around the country, playing alongside some of Aussie music’s best. And now, with the release of their debut EP Cosmic Australiana, they continue to build themselves as one of our wildest emerging garage-punk bands. If you’re not already familiar with this band, stop fucking around and come jump on the bandwagon.

On their debut EP Cosmic Australiana, Far North Queensland-based four-piece Boing Boing belt out a slab of raucous pub-punk glory.

Cosmic Australiana is an eight-track collection of psychobilly-tinged madness, exploring a variety of topics held close to the hearts of all Australians: bacon and eggs, Jonathan Thurston, and of course, Xavier Rudd. With their raucous blend of jangly instrumentation and flailing vocal melodies, Boing Boing have delivered an EP that’s brimming with no-bullshit punk brilliance.

From appointing JT the ‘King Of The North’ to labelling Xavier Rudd a ‘wanker’, the lyrics on this thing are absolutely masterful. The EP was recorded live over a weekend with Alistair Richardson (Zefereli, Clea) at his home-built studio, and mastered by Aussie music legend Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).

These are still early days for this FNQ band, but judging by everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes. In the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to Cosmic Australiana above.
